The Draft

AUTHOR: imnamingmy1stchildvinny | IN: Lightning, Opinion, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As we count down the days until the 2009 NHL entry draft, I have been searching the Interwebs far and wide for some sort of Bolts news. I found this little gem here  ..
John Tavares might be coming to the Avalanche after all. At least if the Red Line Report is doing the selections for the NHL draft. The well-respected independent scouting service now ranks Tavares as the third-best prospect in the upcoming draft – this, after months of scouts ranking him a consensus No. 1. The Avs own the third pick in the first round, scheduled for June 26 [...]

Don’t Be Stupid

My brother and I were discussing this on the way to a meeting to take over the world earlier today. The Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke has already said that the Leafs want to move up in the draft. They are willing to trade players and picks in order to move up. The specifics of the conversation we had went a little like this…
if the Bolts trade their pick, it better be for the world, or im getting a refund on my season tickets for next season..
If the Bolts consider trading their #2 pick in the draft, it better [...]

Being Crappy Pays Off In The End

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, NHL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The NHL held their draft suckiness lottery this evening.  This was a big night for the 14 Lightning fans who actually care about the team still.  For those of us that do, we have been rooting for losses at the Forum for the last month and a half.  It was kind of funny during the last game of the season, people showing up for the game because it was the cool thing to do, and rooting for the team to win, which at the time, would have drastically reduced our chances at winning the draft lottery, or more importantly, being [...]

It Was A Bust!

AUTHOR: imnamingmy1stchildvinny | IN: Lightning, Opinion, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

So the Washinton Capitals finished off our home schedule with a bang. Well it was less of a bang and more of a thump. Or maybe it was a thud? Whatever it was, it was the sound a team makes when they are second worst in the league and are being beat by a bunch of All-Stars. It was a interesting 1st period with our resident rookie phenom Mr. Steven Stamkos breaking the franchise record for most goals scored in a rookie season. I hate to harp, but wasn’t he not ready for the NHL? But I digress. The rest [...]

Outback Steakhouse > Tampa Bay Lightning

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, NHL, Opinion | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In last nights second to last home game, after 31 minutes, me and my brother had had enough.  Watching the team play was an afterthought to an average steak.  This was a sad realization by us both because we are not the leave games early types, as we generally will stick it out and watch us get our ass kicked in its’ entirety.
The half-Bush league team we have on the ice is almost comical at some points.  There were at least 4 times during my 31 minutes of attendance, that me and another season ticket holder that sits next [...]

Yay, Fighting!

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, NHL, Opinion | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

I have been clamoring for the Tampa Bay Lightning to drop the gloves a bit more, since it is apparent that at the actual game of hockey, we are not very good.  The Isles who have been dropping the gloves like its going out of style lately, obliged.
Two guys who were recently called up, Zenon Konopka for the Lightning and Mitch Fritz for the Isle were both involved in fights.
In the first bout, Fritz beat the hell out of our resident fight loser, David Koci.  This is a beatdown, watch at your own risk.

In the 2nd bout, [...]

We Are The Worst, Kind Of

AUTHOR: imnamingmy1stchildvinny | IN: Lightning, News, Opinion | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

So tonight we lost to the very worst team in the entire NHL, the New York Islanders. With no Vinny Lecavalier, Josef Melichar, Ryan Craig, Cory Murphy, Marek Malik, or Richard Petiot, we still managed 30 shots on goal, and allowed about the same on our net. With this loss we still haven’t claimed the worst spot in the league, but remain 3rd worst ahead of the Islanders by 5 points.  With only three games left in the season for the Bolts its conceivable that we could still be in contention for the 1st overall pick in the 2009 Draft! [...]

Special Treatment

AUTHOR: imnamingmy1stchildvinny | IN: Lightning, Off Topic, Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

So it is official!!
I am once again a season ticket holder for the Tampa Bay Lightning.  My brother and I, were contacted by the Lightning about renewing our season ticket package. One of the first things that they told us is that they are reducing the price on 90% of the seats in the St. Pete Times Forum for next season. My guess is that they are trying to keep  the 4000 or so loyal fans that show up to the games along with me and my brother nightly. Next they told us that after the game on Tuesday night [...]
