It’s Almost Time

Friday night will be the official start to the Tampa Bay Lightning 2009-2010 season. The Stanley Cup Finals will be decided in an epic game 7 between the defending champs, and the almost defending champs. I’m not saying that I don’t care about this series, I’m just saying that it feels like I have seen this already. Oh wait I have seen this. IT WAS LAST YEAR. I’ve been out of town for almost a month for work so I haven’t been able to really follow the last few series like I would have wanted to. But now that the game 7 is here, the thing I’m most excited about is the fact that after this is over, next season starts. Lightning fans are ready for the draft, as well as free agency to see whats going to happen with the future of our club. Is it going to be another off season of bonehead moves, or smarter, more fiscally responsible signings? Is Vinny sticking around or am I asking for my season ticket money back?

So as far as game 7 goes, boltsbythebay is pulling for the Pens, just because who wants to see a repeat. Also teams like Pittsburgh and Chicago and Washington give us hope for the future, because they had a few hard years with good drafts that followed to build the teams they have now.

Oh and if the Pens win I think a rule should be instituted that Sidney Crosby can’t whine about anything anymore.

The 2009-2010 season doesn’t start until October… The 2009 off-season commences the moment the final horn sounds tonight at the Joe.

It’s like the seasons in nature, you gotta go through one to get to the next one. Right now we’re in the Playoff season, next is the post-season (before free agency), then the off-season (free agency and doldrums before camp start), the pre-season and the regular season.

…But the year begins at the start of the regular season. Not at the end of play of the previous season.

Is this an entry on semantics? Thanks for the season calendar guy.
