The Tampa Bay Lightning have drafted Victor Hedman in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft , which is currently going on as I write this. After months of speculation on what the New York Islanders would do with their pick, they decided that John Tavares was the best fit for their club at this point. This worked out well for the Bolts, being that the blue line is where we have the most glaring needs. Hedman is a 6′ 6″ Swedish defenseman, that will hopefully bring some stability to a position that saw 22 people play in it last season.
Since the season ended, their has been speculation that if the Islanders took Hedman over Tavares, that the Lightning would be forced to draft another center. If that happened, it would be almost certain that the ownership would try and move All-Star center Vincent Lecavalier, and his monster, newly inked contract. Since the ownership group is in some sort of millionaire power struggle, this situation with Vinny is still up in the air until the first of July when his no-trade clause kicks in.
This is a step in the right direction for our Bolts. Lets see how the rest of the draft develops.
