I have been watching hockey for quite some time, and don’t know if I have ever witnessed what I saw on Friday night. The lights @ The Prudential Center in crappy Newark, NJ stopped working. It looked for awhile that they might finish the game, essentially using the long break while fixing the lights as an intermission, only switching sides at the end of the 9 minutes remaining in the 2nd period. Eventually though, the light malfunction caused the game to be picked back up from where it stood Friday night, on Sunday.
Before the light malfunction, the Lightning were in cruise control against a team in which we had lost 10 straight times too. Steve Downie, who we continue to applaud on this site for the evolution of his game, scored a re-direct of a Kurtis Foster slapper in the 1st period to put us up 1-0. In the 2nd period, Brandon Bochenski whipped around and slapped one by Martin Brodeur to make it 2-0. Then, Steven Stamkos who was on a 7 game goal scoring drought, wristed one by Martin Brodeur for his 22nd goal and a 3 to nothing Bolts lead.
Then came the lights issue. The one good thing about the lights, is we got to see some good pieces on Martin St Louis on Sun Sports.
The game picked back up yesterday, with Travis Zajac putting one by Smitty, Stammer scoring his 23rd goal on a beauty, and then Zach Parise scoring the final goal of the game to end the two day (span of 3 day) game at 4-2 Bolts.
