Bolts Back On Track, Pick Up 2nd Straight Loss

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, News, Opinion | COMMENTS: None Yet

Being as though the game was not on TV last night, I can only tell you what I know from following the Bolts on Twitter and reading up on the game, post game.  The Bolts lost their 2nd straight, losing to the Blue Jackets 3 to 2.
It seemed like I was receiving a Twitter update every few minutes that the Bolts were going on the Penalty Kill and after looking at the Box Score, we pretty much were.  The Bolts picked up 2 fighting majors and 6 other penalties, 5 of which came in the third period and led to [...]

Steve Downie Breaking Trends

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, Opinion | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Occasionally I get in a random stat scouring mode.  Not really sure why this happens, but I end up looking at random stats for all sports for a couple hours.  This morning happened to be one of those days.
I ran across something interesting while looking at PIM stats.  For the most part, PIM guys tend to be on the minus end of +/-.  There are a few players who do not fall in that classification though, and one of them is Steve Downie.  Although Downie is 3rd in the league in PIMs with 202, out of the top 24 PIM [...]

No Mans Land

Sorry for the delay between posts, I just got back from a week and half New Orleans vacation…
I’m a very level headed sports fan in regards to the teams that I watch.  Sometimes in order for teams to become stronger, they must be awful for a few years.  This fact I think holds the most true in the NHL.
If you take a look around the league, 3 of the best teams, Washington, Pittsburgh and Chicago all became dominant because of the fact that they were awful enough to procure high end draft picks, and they didn’t miss on those picks.
Washington [...]

Top 10 Pick…Here We Come

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sorry for the delay between posts, as I have been on vacation for over a week. I wasn’t able to see the game last night, but I’ll put up the highlights for you to see. I get back on Wednesday night, and have a lot of things I want to write about the spiral downward this team has taken over the last few weeks.

Falling Out

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

With last nights 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Bolts dropped 6 points out of the 8th playoff spot with only 16 games to play.  Barring a 6 to 7 game streak of some sort, the Bolts look like they’ll be missing the playoffs again.
“We play hard, but hard’s not good enough right now,” Lightning forward Martin St. Louis said. “For us it’s about results right now and we just can’t seem to find that.”
The Bolts took an early first period lead on “The Shot”, Steven Stamkos’s 42nd goal from his patented spot.  Not sure why teams continue [...]

Barry Melrose Is A Moron

AUTHOR: Dustin Staggers | IN: Lightning, NHL, News, Off Topic, Opinion | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I’m sure everyone already knew this fact, but Barry Melrose is a moron.  It’s not just his douchey hair, or his douchebag suits, it’s his idiotic comments that truly make him a real moron.  As THN.com said in an article about Steven Stamkos this morning:
Former Lightning coach Barry Melrose will probably never live down his assessment of Stamkos as a rookie last season. After he was fired by the Bolts and replaced by Rick Tocchet, Melrose questioned whether Stamkos was ready for the NHL and to handle the physical play against the league’s big defencemen.
Stammers now has 41 goals, 3 [...]

Oh, and That’s 40

So my brothers last post might not have been too accurate, I think the Bolts may want to make the playoffs. In the last two games the Bolts have scored 10 goals. Now I’m not going to attribute this success to the trade made for Teddy Purcell, but his impact is already visible. In last nights game against the Atlanta Trashers, Teddy had a goal and an assist. From the beginning of the game, Teddy made it apparent that he wanted to score. On a line with Ryan Malone, and Vinny Lecavalier, that might be a real thing for Teddy [...]
