That is a Good Start

I am too pumped. Let me re-phrase it, WE ARE SO PUMPED!! Oh the Rays are playing the Yankees tonight for blah blah blah….. IT DOESN’T MATTER! Lightning hockey is on TV! Tonight the Bolts beat the defending Cup champs 4 to 2 in the second game of the pre-season. I figured I would post my observations, for those who were unlucky enough to miss it.

-Has anyone heard of this Steven Stamkos fellow? This kid is gonna be good. Last year my brother and I called him “40” for the number of goals we thought he would score(way off). In his first game of the pre-season he looks stronger and more confident then ever. I have such a Hetero-man crush on this kid, it isn’t even funny.  He missed a few shots that in a few weeks will be guaranteed goals, not to mention he scored one as well. He played physical D all game and was on the main penalty killing line. Sticking up for goalie Cedrick Desjardins was just icing on the cake for me.

-Speaking of Cedrick Desjardins, he looked great.  Made a bunch of big stops and was pretty solid all around. He was a little rebound-ish but still a solid showing. I don’t remember Karri Ramo looking that good, but I could have been sleeping during those games.

-Victor Hedman looked terrible, in my humble opinion. Other than Radko Gudas, Hedman was easily the worst player on the ice for us.  He looked sluggish, got straight beat a few times, not to mention was robbed by Patrick Sharp, which led to a goal. Step it up kid! I’m waiting for the day he realizes that he is a giant, and starts playing like one. I know he is still a kid so I should cut him some slack, which I will….

-Our powerplay is disgusting.  I can not wait until the season starts so I can watch two full powerplay lines own. The impact of the Simon Gagne and Pavel Kubina is already obvious, in a good way. Gagne has a goal and two assists tonight, and Kubina is an upgrade at the point.

Don’t sleep on our team. I know two games in to pre-season is a tad early to start judging a season, but I feel like we are already playing with a different kind of fire then we were last year. Just saying, don’t sleep on us and then wake up and we are 4th in the east…

Oh, and ps. Nick Boyton, this is Blair Jones, he will be introducing you to the ice this evening. Enjoy the ride punk..
