Hurricanes (26-22-7) at Lightning (33-17-5) 7:30 pm
Tonight the Lightning take on the Hurricanes in a Southeast division showdown. Tampa Bay continues its streak of taking on desperate teams as Carolina is in the 3-team mix for 8th with Atlanta and Buffalo. They currently sit in 9th, one point behind Atlanta with two games in hand.
This is the third meeting between the rivals. Each won a home game with Tampa taking a 5-1 decision on December 20th and Carolina winning 6-4 on January 15th.
This is most definitely a statement game for the Lightning. They haven’t played since the 7-4 catastrophe against the Sabres last Tuesday. Tonight will be a big game for their confidence, and it will go a long way to prove the Buffalo game was just a fluke.
The Lightning have had a good break to regroup and focus on the remainder of this homestand. Carolina last played on Thursday, when they lost a 2-1 decision to the Flyers. The Lightning are statistically ahead of the Hurricanes in every aspect. However, if the Lightning learned anything on Tuesday, its that you can’t take that for granted. Hopefully the break has cleared their heads and they are ready for their fight in a newfound tough division.
