That’s right, we talking PLAYOFFS for the Tampa Bay Lightning! For the first time in four years, the Bolts have made the postseason dance. A few things have changed since the last time the Lightning will be playing passed mi-April:
-Alex Ovechkin no longer has all of his teeth.
-Charlie Sheen is now clinically insane.
-A black man was elected president.
-People have started caring about the CFL…HAHAHAHA PSYCH!
-The entire Middle East has gone crazy. Again.
-Theo Fleury tried to come back. Again.
-Ray Emory came back. Again.
Just two years removed from being in the running for the 1st overall pick at the draft, the Lightning have turned around the organization from top to bottom. They have brought in owners who understand how to build the fanbase. The re-branding effort is brilliant, particularly the new perks in store for season ticket holders.
Not only that, but a new staff in Steve Yzerman and Guy Boucher brought in fresh faces and the right pieces. When the Lightning started the year strong, everyone thought they would regress to the mean. Everyone thought that there was no way they could keep up that kind of play throughout the year. Well, they did.
They spent a large chunk of the season at the top of the Southeast Division standings. They beat both teams they should beat and teams they weren’t supposed to beat. It has been a very good year for the Bolts, but there is more work to be done. This is the first of what should be several good years with this team. Take a moment. Let it sink in. Enjoy it.
Now wake up and go do it again tomorrow afternoon.
