This may have never been done before. It might be a completely new acheivment. Of course, no one knows because no one focuses on hockey in the south, but it is nonetheless a complete victory for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Every team in their organization is going to the playoffs.
That’s right, the Norfolk Admirals of the AHL have made the playoffs to complete the franchise trifecta. The ECHL’s Florida Everblades were the first to reach the feat, followed by the Lightning last week.
To have three teams at various levels of play, all in southern markets, do as well as they are doing is quite the accomplishment. What is more important, though, is what this means for the big club.
The Lightning made the playoffs for the first time in four years this season. They were a bit of a surprise to everyone, even their own fans. What the wins for the minor league teams means is depth. The Bolts have players coming up who are going to be good, and it’s showing in their minor-league success. It also makes them not as hesitant to call up minor-leaguers when necessary, helping the overall health of the team.
Most importantly, it means the Lightning will be good beyond this year. Congrats to all of the teams of the Tampa Bay organization.
