With all of the signing and trading hitting the NHL these past few days, the Bolts have seen more players leave than stay. But, Tampa can’t be that unlucky can they? I mean, Steve Yzerman and Jeff Vinik can’t be thinking about sending Lightning hero, and restricted free agent, Steven Stamkos packing, too… could they? Internet rumor-mills far and wide have produced page after compelling page explaining why almost every team in the NHL could make a move for the star center. They state the fact that Vinik is already handcuffed by the Vincent Lecavalier contract, and that he’s a very cautious investor that may just be interested in cutting his potential losses. But, then there’s the announcement coming from the St. Petersburg Times that Vinik has pledged over $2 million dollars in donations to nonprofits that will be given in $50,000 increments at each home game over the 2011 – 2012 season with great pomp and circumstance. This sounds more like an owner that is looking to invest in a market that has suddenly blasted its way back into Stanley Cup talks, and not one that is going to let a prized #1 draftee slip through his fingers… or does it? All we really want is an answer, but I guess we will have to wait and see.
