Following last nights 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, Lightning rookie Brett Connolly got some good news. General manager Steve Yzerman told the young 19 year old Connolly that he was going to remain in the big leagues instead of going back to Prince George of the junior Western hockey league, thus beginning his contract.
Connolly was given a nine-game tryout before this decision had to be made and has impressed his coaches, teammates and Yzerman enough to stick around.
Connolly has been playing on a line with veterans Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier, both of whom have championship experience in Tampa. He (Connolly) helped set up the Lightning’s first goal by Lecavalier last night, though he was not awarded an assist.
Congratulations Brett Connolly and here’s hoping you get your first NHL goal soon!!
