Throughout most of this season, the Tampa Bay Lightning have been struggling to find consistency. However, Lightning center Steven Stamkos has been a pretty consistent offensive and defensive player all year.
Stamkos leads the team, and now the league, with 20 goals on the season. He also has 17 helpers, giving Stammer a total of 37 points in 32 games played. Defensively, Stamkos has been pretty solid. His 12 plus/minus rating has him at the top of the team: the next highest rating is a plus 4.
Stats are an obvious indicator of how well Stamkos has done thus far this year. After all, he’s averaging over a point per game. However, since the beginning of the season we’ve seen Stammer add something else to his skill set: leadership. Stamkos opened the season as an Alternate (or Assistant) Captain, assisting Lecavalier and St. Louis in the leadership department. Stamkos has risen especially lately, in the absence of St. Louis. Steven has won the past two games for the Lightning, carrying the team to a 2 game win streak after a terrible 1-7 stretch. Stamkos has been leading the team vocally, as well as by his actions. After all, part of leadership is backing up words with actions. Stamkos has done so perfectly thus far.
