Tonight our boys in blue take to the ice at the Forum, finally. Coming off of a tough 3 game road trip, where the Bolts collected only 3 of 6 possible points going 1-1-1, the Lightning could use some home-town thunder to get them back to form.
It’s always said that teams play better at home, well in this case nothing truer can be said about the Lightning. First off, and most importantly, their Power Play is a bit more respectable 22.2%, whereas it’s an unimpressive 9.5% away from Tampa. It was the Power Play last season which made up for the occasional lapse in defense and at times inconsistent goaltending, this year, as I’ve said before, it is sorely missed.
At home, the Bolts have been involved in 13 contests, going 8-5-0. Averaging 3.23 Goals Per Game, 29 Shots, and 3 Goals Allowed Per Game. These numbers aren’t really headline worthy, but look a better than the road averages after playing 21 games of 2.19 GG, 28 S, and 3.57 GA.
With the Netminding Philosopher Bryzgalov and the Flyers coming into town tonight it wont be an easy homecoming. But after the feeding frenzy in San Jose and the OT Loss in Colorado, the Bolts were sure to be clicking their skates together saying “There’s no place like home ice.” Now let’s do our part and be the thunder and hope it gives our Lightning the courage to get out there and overcome this slumping start.
Take care and take it easy,
