Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos opened the scoring Thursday night as the Bolts took on the Montreal Canadiens. The Lightning went on to win the game 4-3 and Stamkos’ goal was his 23rd of the season – separating him from New York’s Marian Gaborik and singling him out as the NHL’s sole goal scoring leader.
Stamkos has now reached the half-way mark of his scoring total from last season, which was 45 goals. He has 96 goals in his last two seasons – a league leading statistic. He is on pace to potentially win the second Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy of his career.
