The Rise of Garon; Matty G!

Needless to say, Mathieu Garon has been absolutely huge for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the last three games. After the Lightning lost by five goals to the San Jose Sharks, Garon has stepped up and delivered three consecutive quality games. His only real mistake was the overtime goal to Duchene on the 23rd. Outside of that, Garon has been great for the Bolts, earning him the nickname ‘Matty G’ from Lightning fans throughout Twitter.

Garon has put together a streak of three great games for the Lightning. He is 2-0-1 in that span, with a .937 save percentage. It seems like Garon, who was orignally signed by the organization as a backup goaltender, has taken over the number one spot on the team. Dwayne Roloson hasn’t seen a start since he lost four in a row for the Bolts, allowing four goals or more in those four games. The irony of the whole situation: Matty G was orignally supposed to be the backup for Dwayne Roloson. So far, the exact opposite has unfolded, as Garon has been the better goaltender this season. Scouting reports have questioned Garon’s ability to play on a team as a number one goaltender, but he has shown that he can get it done, even against the top offenses in the league.
