After the beating they took Thursday night at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins, losing 9-0, it was expected that the Calgary Flames would have to start moving some players around. Well, it may be happening, as the Flames have already secured a deal Friday, although not mind-blowing, with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Bolts have released forward Blair Jones in exchange for Flames defenseman Brendan Mikkelson. Mikkelson, 24 years old, 6’3 and 204 pounds, was drafted in the second round, 31st overall in 2005 by the Anaheim Ducks. Since then he has played in 86 NHL games and has accumulated six assists and 40 penalty minutes.
Mikkelson currently ranks second in AHL defensemen this season with three goals and 15 points in 33 games.
