In a season mired with questionable defense, powerless power-plays and up-and-down goal-tending, the Tampa Bay Lightning have one thing to boast about, Steven Stamkos. Last night, Stamkos netted his 30th goal of the 2011-12 campaign, increasing his lead in the NHL Goal Scoring race over Toronto’s Phil Kessel by six goals. Should we be surprised? Not at all.
Since coming to the NHL in 2008-09 season, Stamkos has notched 149 goals, second only to Alexander Ovechkin’s 156 (from 08/09-present). With how this year is going for Ovi, Stamkos should have no trouble in eclipsing him during this campaign.
In 2010 Stamkos shared the “Rocket” Richard Trophy with Sidney Crosby, both scoring 51 goals.
In 2011 Stamkos was in the run for the Richard yet again, but suffered a bit of a slump, and lost the trophy by five goals to Corey Perry‘s 50.
Needless to say, Stamkos is a scoring powerhouse. Bolts By The Bay wishes him continued success in the current season and hopes that he takes the “Rocket” home from Las Vegas once again.
Take care and take it easy,
