Tonight The Tampa Bay Lightning take on The Dallas Stars. Looking at the stats, Dallas is a bit better than Tampa. But Tampa doesn’t seem to pay attention to the stats.
When the big boys come to town, it’s a different game. It’s not about numbers. It’s about THIS GAME on THIS NIGHT on THIS ICE. Hopefully they will keep that mentality as they go into a back to back 2 game road trip. They have been improving steadily on the road but have yet to pull off a win with those improvements.
For the season The Lightning is 18-23-4 with 40 points, The Stars are 24-19-2 with 50 points. Of the past 10 games The Lightning is 3-6-1, The Stars are 4-5-1.
Dallas had a solid start, but has been struggling as of late. If the Lightning win tonight, that would surely help boost their confidence heading into Phoenix tomorrow, more than likely against former Tampa goal tender Mike Smith. If Mathieu Garon is in net tonight, which he skated off of the ice in morning practice first so that is an indicator that he will be, then it’s likely that Dwayne Roloson will be up against Smitty tomorrow night.
Tom Pyatt is listed as day to day with a lower body injury that he suffered at Thursday’s practice. Also out are Mattias Ohlund, knee, IR, Victor Hedman, concussion, indefinitely, IR, Adam Hall, upper body, 8 weeks, IR, Ryan Shannon, lower body, 2-4 weeks, IR, Dana Teyrell, lower body, day to day, Marc-Andre Bergeron, upper body, day to day, and JT Wyman, upper body, day to day.
For Dallas Jamie Benn is out with an appendectomy, Phillip Larson with a head injury, Mike Ribeiro has an a knee issue as well as Tomas Vincour.
That’s a lot of injuries on both teams. The Lightning players, especially the defensemen, are having to play in different places and step up to lines that they aren’t used to. The second and third liners are now the first liners and they are having to up their game. I personally feel that they have all been doing an outstanding job of filling that role. This will be an interesting game tonight, with our boys in blue looking to prove a point and get a back to back win on the road. It will be on SunSports and Lightning Radio tonight at 8:30pm, you can listen live online here.
