Let the Chaos Ensue

Let the countdown and in depth coverage begin!  As of this posting there is roughly 68 hours until the closing of the NHL Trade Season.  Those of us here at Fan Sided and Bolts By The Bay are of course jumping into the thick of it all to bring you, the fans, excellent coverage up to and past the deadline on Monday, February 27th.  In addition to coverage on our normal team pages, Fansided-NHL will be hosting a COVERITLIVE Event all day Monday to bring you the up-to-the-minute news you need!  Continue to check our sites  and look on Twitter for #fansidednhlchat for further information as the weekend progresses.

Now as far as our Tampa Bay Lightning are concerned, we all were holding out hope that we were not going to become sellers.  Even after the Moore and Kubina trades, we still thought maybe.  And then the unthinkable happened, and Steve Downie was dealt to the Avs in a three way trade.  In my opinion that move officially listed the Lightning as sellers prior to the deadline.  In my opinion, I am completely fine with being sellers (though I still can’t get over Kubi playing in Flyers’ Orange), as I trust Steve Yzerman and his vision for building a competitive team.  A competitive team that will be strong, not for just one year or two but for multiple years.

Recently I have not seen much chatter about any further pending moves by Steve Yzerman, however as we have seen, management is pretty tight lipped about their plans and intentions (other than Kubina of course).  But here’s the recap of the recent flurry of moves in the past two weeks:

F Dominic Moore and 2012 7th Round Pick -> San Jose Sharks, for 2012 2d Round Pick (From Minnesota)

D Pavel Kubina -> Philadelphia Flyers, for F Jon Kalinski and 2d Round Pick (Conditional from Florida, either 2012 or 2013)

F Steve Downie -> Colorado Avalanche, for D Kyle Quincey

D Kyle Quincey -> Detroit Red Wings, for D Sebastien Piche and 2012 1st Round Pick

F Matt Fornataro -> Chicago Black Hawks, for F Brandon Segal

F Tim Wallace – Claimed off waivers from New York Islanders

For a little more on the Lightning Trade Activity see my recent posting.

Even though we’re sellers, I expect our Bolts in Blue to still make their presence known.  They have too much charachter not too.  Best example I can give is last night’s match against the Winnipeg Jets, in which they battled back to score 3 goals after being down 4 -0 (yes it was still a loss, but they kept fightning until the final horn sounded).  With that, it’s upon us as Fans to not give up on them, because they surely are not willing to give up on us.  #betheTHUNDER and #bERELENTLESS Bolts Nation!

Take care and take it easy,
– Jim Courteau
