Character and class are the two words that come to mind when I think about this team. Despite all of the challenges and hard ships, they carry on and keep fighting. They don’t give up. With a head coach like Guy Boucher leading by example with his words of wisdom and ‘get better every day’ attitude, it’s no wonder the team is bonded like never before. Ryan Malone acknowledged that it doesn’t look good for their chances, but there’s still ten games. He said that they have to go out and play hard, continue to develop as a player, and help the guys around them. Victor Hedman told media after practice that they have to focus on the small things and take pride in playing good defense. He admitted that they gave up two simple goals against Buffalo, and they also need to be shooting more in the offensive zone.
Newly Acquired goal tender Sabastien Caron said “I didn’t think I was going to get one more chance like this, (in the NHL), so it’s a good experience.”
Coach Boucher came through again with is positive words. “Everything matters. Everything we do matters for today, it matters for tomorrow, it matters for next year, it matters for them personally, it matters for the team, it matters for the organization, and it matters for the fans.”
“You can see the quality of our individuals when you look at Marty, Stamkos, Malone, Purcell, these (last) two practices, Brewer, Hedman… they worked extremely hard. It’s easy to close the books now and just go through the motions, but that’s not what these guys are doing. So I have all the respect in the world for how they’ve managed it in the last two days. We did have some meetings, but meetings are just words. So they were showing me action and I’m impressed.”
