As the end of the season approaches, a lot of questions remain regarding the offseason. Plenty of the Tampa Bay Lightning players will become RFAs and UFAs at the end of the season. The newly acquired defensemen: Keith Aulie, Brian Lee, and Brendan Mikkelson will become RFAs, while Mike Commodore will become a UFA. A handful of other players will also become free agents this season. Tim Wallace, Ryan Shannon, Adam Hall, JT Wyman, Brett Clark, Bruno Gervais, Dwayne Roloson, and Sebastien Caron also have contracts ending.
Not only are there a few Lightning players coming up, there’s also a bunch of the Norfolk Admirals’ players signed by the Lightning, Lightning’s current AHL affiliate, who have contracts ending. Evan Oberg, Jaroslav Janus, Alexandre Picard, Sebastien Piche, and Mike Kostka will all become RFAs. Whereas, Richard Petiot, Trevor Smith, Mike Angelidis, Michel Ouellet, Scott Jackson, Brandon Segal, and Jon Kalinski will all be UFAs.
In the offseason, there is no doubt that Steve Yzerman, Vice President & General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, will most likely be searching for another goalie to add to the team. Currently, Dwayne Roloson, who we signed last season before the playoffs, also has a contract up. Most people are almost certainly inclined to believe that Roloson will just end up retiring after this year, but there is a slight chance he won’t.
There is a lot of uncertainty with all the up and coming free agents, as well as (most likely) a goalie search. Right now, I’m not sure who we will see or won’t see leave Tampa this summer, but I do know that there will be a couple of changes on our roster. Whatever happens, I think we can almost certainly expect a busy offseason for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
