Season Review, Playoffs Preview, And My Possible Shanaban

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s season has come to an end. They did not make the playoffs. This does not mean that it was not a year lacking of accomplishments, nor does it mean that they have anything to hang their heads about. Several personal and franchise records were set. Over the next couple of days I’ll be reviewing the season, the moments that stuck out to me the most, and player reviews.  The 2012 playoffs have officially started. With one night done, the second night started… it’s already had controversy! A ref openly blew an offsides call resulting in a goal, a major injury last night that called for immediate surgery today, a player taking his aggression out on another player with controversial punishment, overtimes, and oh, so much more. This is going to prove to be one of the most interesting playoff seasons yet! Why? #BecauseIt’sTheCup
Here are my first round picks:
LA Kings VS Vancouver Canucks -Canucks in 6
San Jose Sharks VS St. Louis Blues -Sharks in 5
Chicago Blackhawks VS Phoenix Coyotes -Blackhawks in 6. I do love Smitty, our former goalie. But the Blackhawks are my second favorite team, that aside, I think they are the better team. The Coyotes strength is in their goaltending. The Blackhawks have strong goaltending, and are great offensively as well.
Detroit Redwings VS Nashville Predators -Redwings in 6
Ottawa Senators VS New York Rangers -Rangers in 4
Washington Capitals VS Boston Bruins -and it PAINS me to say this, because I can’t stand Boston…. but Bruins in 4. The Lightning swept the Caps last year, the Bruins will do it this year.
New Jersey Devils VS Florida Panthers -Devils in 6. I want our Floridian rivals to take this series, but I have seen them practice and I have seen New Jersey practice. There is no comparison. Watching both teams play our Bolts throughout the year, I have to say that, in play, the Devils are the better team.
Philadelphia Flyers VS Pittsburgh Penguins -Penguins in 7. I can not stand the Flyers almost as much as  I dislike the Bruins. Especially after the whole “The day hockey stood still, 1-3-1 “trap” bit. However the Penguins have proved to be dangerous. Not dangerous in a ‘wow, they play so great’ way… but dangerous as in they play dirty and your star players will get hurt by their dirty hits, and they won’t get penalized for them’ way. For me this is the lesser of the 2 evils, but because of the NHL’s unwritten loyalties to the birded team, they seem to let them get away with anything. And God forbid anyone speak out about it. Heck, the #Shanahammer will probably come down on ME for saying this!! I’ll be fined $20,000 for speaking the truth like Tortorella. I might even get a 3 game suspension. #Shanaban So yeah. Pens in 7.
