Hello Lightning fans! My name is Liberty O’Neill and I am over the moon about becoming a new staff writer for Bolts by the Bay! I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay area all my life and I discovered a love for hockey at my local ice skating rink where ‘Got Stamkos?’ bumper stickers were plentiful. Since the age of ten years old hockey has been one of my favorite past times although I only really started paying special attention to the Lightning since 2009, however before I could always be found watching junior ice hockey in between my figure skating sessions—at one time I basically lived at that rink. Currently, I’m finishing up my junior year at St. Petersburg High where I’m editor-in-chief of our paper and I intend on going to university after graduation to study journalism and public relations. My love of hockey is indescribable but I bleed blue and white. My favorite bolt is Victor Hedman but my favorite NHL player is Steve Downie. I look up to Downie because I have so much respect for his story and who he is, he stands up for himself and his teammates gallantly because isn’t afraid of anything, nothing can get in his way. My favorite sound in the entire world is skate blades against ice, I’m practically allergic to cold weather so hockey in paradise is just perfect for me and I wouldn’t have it any other way. And oh, did I mention one of my most prized possessions is an autographed game-used hockey stick that Nate Thompson gave to me? It is, Nate Thompson’s sort of only the coolest thing ever.
Well that’s it for me, I’m majorly looking forward to writing for Bolts by the Bay and I hope you all enjoy my upcoming work. Don’t be a stranger, if you have any constructive criticism, story ideas, or just want to talk don’t be shy!
