The 2012/2012 Tampa Bay Lightning schedule has been released. As usual the team starts it’s season on the road, in Sunrise, against the ‘Stinkin’ Panthers on October 13th. On October 16th the season home opener will be against the NY Islanders. It will be a night full of activities, as last year’s was. Last year we had the anticipation of the tesla coils and all of the new changes to the Tampa Bay Times Forum. This year we are looking forward to the new scoreboard that will be the biggest in all of the United States and Canada. Also at the home opener, it will be team Captain Vincent Lecavalier’s 1000th career NHL game.
Despite fears of an extreme schedule in the upcoming season, it will be balanced with travel and home vs away games. For the most part they’ll be playing an equal amount of home and away games each month. There will be no more than one extra game either way.
On the road the Lightning will not have a stretch longer than four games, which will happen three times. They will have five trips with three road games. They will play a single road game seven times. Of their forty-one home games, thirteen will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will be three Friday games, but the majority of the games will be played on Saturdays with ten. There will be no Monday or Sunday home games. In mid-March will be the longest home stand of six games. They will have one home stand of four games, and three home stands of three games. They will have thirteen sets of back-to-back games. Ten will occur with games on the road, the other three to be broken up between home and the road. None of the back-to-backs will be both games at home.
Month Home Away Total
October 3 4 7
November 7 6 13
December 7 7 14
February 7 7 14
Though I will miss the opportunity of being able to see the Chicago Blackhawks down here, I am really looking forward to seeing the Detroit Red Wings. My fear is that there will be more red jerseys that night than blue. I am also looking forward to the San Jose Sharks game, and the Colorado Avalanche (Should Downie stay with the team.)
