The Tampa Bay Lightning were busy during the first few days in July signing players that they hope will make a big impact in the way they play, and take the team deep into the playoffs. Believe me, with these signings, I do believe we have what it takes to win. I refuse to mention what the ultimate prize is, and do I dare say… we need to stay healthy throughout the season.
On July 1st, we saw Forward Benoit Pouliot finally inked to a contract. He comes to us from the Boston Bruins. Another player, who is a veteran player, we signed is Defenseman Sami Salo. He made an impact in Vancouver with the Canucks, and Steve Yzerman is hoping he will provide the veteran leadership our defense needs.
On July 4th, while others were enjoying Independence Day, we signed another Defenseman… Matt Carle. This will be his second stint with the team, and comes back to Tampa Bay from Philadelphia.
On July 6th, we signed Goalie Anders Lindback, who was previously with Nashville. Defenseman Matt Taormina comes to us from New Jersey.
On August 2nd (yes, today), we signed former Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Defenseman Dmitry Korobov to a 2 year, 2 way contract. He went undrafted in the NHL. Two way contract means he can play for the Lightning, and our new American Hockey League (AHL), the Syracuse Crunch.
