NHL Realignment Proposal #1

It definitely is not easy to draw up a realignment plans that would be beneficial to rivalries, and to all teams in the National Hockey League.  My first proposal makes sense to all teams, and where they play.

Vancouver will always be a Western Conference Team.  Boston will always be a Eastern Conference Team.  Splitting different teams makes sense from a geographical stand.  Some won’t like it – while some will like it alot.

Three conferences – West, Central, and East.  Some teams would move from being in the same conference (division) as someone they have a heated rivalry with.  However, it is time for a shake-up as fans know it can get really old.  I believe to grow the business it is time to make some moves to pump some life into the NHL.  New rivalries would form… while old ones would continue, but not to the point where it becomes monotonous seeing them over and over again.

Without hesitation… here goes nothing:

Western Conference – Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Kings, Sharks, Ducks, Coyotes, Avalanche, Starsand Jets.

Eastern Conference – Canadiens, Bruins, Sabres, Flyers, Devils, Islanders, Capitals, Rangers, Hurricanes, and Panthers.

Central Conference – Wild, Blues, Blackhawks, Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Predators, Lightning, Maple Leafs, Penguins, and Senators.

This is proposal number one, and as I was typing this… I realized three conferences wouldn’t work, in  my opinion as an NHL fan as it would be difficult to determine how the playoffs would work.  I thought about the top team in each conference would be the champion, but the top 15 teams with the best record would have a chance to play for the Stanley Cup.

Do not shoot me!  This is just proposal number one as I have a few scenarios playing in my head. :)
