The deadline for the start of the regular season approaches faster each day, and still there is no agreement on a new CBA between the NHL and the NHLPA. Expect them to start canceling regular season games this week. At this point, I just figure it’s saving me money.
ESPN has come to an agreement with the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). They will air the games on ESPN3 in the United States, territories of the United States, and parts of Great Britain. The schedule (so far) is as follows:
Dynamo Moscow vs Ak Bars on Oct. 3rd;
Lev vs SKA on Oct. 6th;
Slovan vs Dynamo Moscow on Oct. 7th;
CSKA vs SKA on Oct. 8th;
Lev vs Dynamo Moscow on Oct. 9th.
This is an opportunity to keep up with some of our favorite NHL stars who are playing for the KHL during the lockout. As of right now none of the Lightning are playing in any of these, but hey… at least it’s hockey. This could mean trouble for the NHL, as they don’t need competition with another league right now.
If fans can get their hockey fix by watching the KHL, then the players will tell the owners that as long as they agree to disagree, they will be in Russia. Maybe this competition could be a good thing to help things move along. One can only hope!
