During the NHL Lockout that claimed half the season, so many fans were saying that they would boycott the NHL for every game that was ‘taken’ from them. Others said that they would not bother with this season at all. Some even went a step further to say that they are done with the league all together, and would never return as an NHL fan.

You could not prove it to me by the numbers of fans that have shown up to training camp, Fan Fest, and the Home Opener. Saturday night’s season debut was a sell-out crowd, and most were wearing Bolt Blue. On Saturday, January 19th, FOX Sun Sports set a record for the highest number of viewers on opening night in Lightning history. The 6-3 victory generated a 2.8 household rating in the Tampa DMA, according to Nielson Media Research. Saturday’s broadcast peaked a 3.4 HH rating.

I am glad that the fans still care, and that they are coming out to support our team. Those who are unable to come out are supporting from home, and that means a lot. I will be there on Friday night for Vincent Lecavalier‘s 1,000th game ceremony, I hope to see many of you there! Those who can’t, be sure to tune in or listen to Dave Mishkin on Lightning radio!
