In the 20 games that we have played this season, Stamkos has already registered 14 goals and 17 assists giving him a total of 31 points. These numbers place him not only at the head of the NHL in goals scored (closely followed by John Tavares of the New York Islanders and James Neal of the Pittsburgh Penguins, both with 13,) but it puts him in first place in points (along with Sidney Crosby.)
Stamkos had a rather long goal scoring streak stretching 6 games; from February 16th against the Florida Panthers until February 26th against the Buffalo Sabres. This is the longest streak in the NHL this season.
With his assist on St. Louis’ goal against the New York Rangers on Thursday, he ends February with an 8 game point streak.
This is Stamkos’ fifth season in the NHL, all with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and he has already won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy twice. Once in the 2009-10 season, an honor in which he shares with Sidney Crosby, and again in the 2011-12 season where Stamkos netted his 60 goal season.
He has also been selected for the NHL All-Star game two years in a row.
I don’t know about you, but I for one hope that Steven Stamkos wears Lightning Blue for many, MANY years to come.
What do you think? Is Stamkos poised to be the next Vincent Lecavalier for the Lightning? Sound off in the comments below.
