Desjardins will join the team on the rest of their road trip throughout Canada this weekend with stops to face the Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets, respectively.
It is widely assumed that Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach Guy Boucher is planning to go with Mathieu Garon in net for both games this weekend, but there is no official word as of yet confirming this. In any case, Desjardins is far from just another backup goalie.
Since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens on Valentine’s Day, Desjardins has earned a record with the Crunch of 5-2-1 in addition to his 1.71 Goals Allowed Average and his stellar .933 Save Percentage. He is also fresh off of a shutout win, making 20 saves in the 1-0 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Wednesday night.
The 6’ tall 192 pound Edmundston, NB native has played one game for the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, suffering a 4-3 loss against his former team, the Montreal Canadiens, on March 9th.
In any case, Desjardins clearly has potential, and should not be overlooked as the potential future of Tampa Bay Lightning goaltending.
Do you think the Lightning should go with Desjardins at least one night during this road trip through Canada? Are you looking forward to the possibility of seeing him in the net for another run? Let us know in the comments below.
