After being down 3-1, the Syracuse Crunch made a comeback and took a series lead 1-0 over the Portland Pirates. Richard Panik, who had his first game back with Syracuse since returning from Tampa, scored the GWG in OT.
Portland scored the first goal 10:53 in the first period, which was scored by Darian Dziurzynski. The lone assist went to Ethan Werek. With less than 3 minutes remaining in the first period, Portland struck again. David Rundblad scored the power-play goal, while Brandon Gormley and Jordan Martinook earned the assists.
A little more than six minutes into the second period, Tyler Johnson scored a power-play goal for the Crunch, bringing the Crunch within one goal. Earning the assists were Richard Panik and Ondrej Palat. Less than two minutes later, Portland regained their two goal lead, scored by Chris Brown, which was assisted by Andy Miele and Phil Lane. On a five on three power play 13:32 in the second period, the Crunch pulled within one goal again when Mark Barberio scored bringing the game 3-2, assisted by Palat and Johnson.
Seven minutes into the third period, Dan Sexton tied the game at 3 with assists from Andrej Suster and Philip-Michael Devos, which ended up putting the game into overtime.
Syracuse had a couple almost-goals in overtime before Panik scored the game winning goal 6:36 in OT on a power-play, assists were given to Palat and Johnson.
There was a combined 59 minutes of penalties between the two teams, 40 minutes for Portland and 19 minutes for Syracuse. Three goals were scored out of the 11 power-plays for Syracuse, Portland had 1 out of 7.
