Just as the 2012-13 season was the 20 Years of Thunder for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the 2013-14 season is the 20th Anniversary for the Lightning’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. While a complete schedule is not yet available for their 20th Anniversary season, they have announced a select handful of dates, including their home opener.
At the home opener, the Crunch will not only be celebrating their 20th Anniversary season. They will also be unveiling the East Division and Eastern Conference Championship banners that they earned during the 2012-13 seasons, and raising them high above the ice.
In addition to the home opener, five more guaranteed dates have been released for the Syracuse Crunch’s 20th Anniversary season; however, their opponents are yet to be determined.
Those dates are:
Saturday, October 26th
Friday, November 29th
Saturday, December 28th
Saturday, January 11th
Sunday February 23rd
There has been an opponent announced for one of the aforementioned games. The game being held on February 23rd is being featured as a part of the Washington AHL Showcase to be held at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. as the Syracuse Crunch will take on the Hershey Bears, the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals.
Personally, I can’t wait for Crunch Hockey to start up again; not just because that also means that Lightning hockey will be right around the corner, but because the Syracuse Crunch have such a talented group of players.
As we saw last season when the Bolts were plagued with injuries, any one of them could be called to the main roster at any point, and in the past, each and every one of them have been up to the task.
I think I speak for everyone when I say…”Is it October yet?”
