Last season, the 27 year old Portage, Michigan native played 48 regular season games with the Rochester Americans, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres. During that time, he scored 14 goals and 17 assists for a total of 31 points along with 20 penalty minutes.
During his two seasons with the Rochester Americans, he has scored a total of 29 goals and 31 assists for a total of 60 points.
Before joining the Amerks, the 6’1” 180 pound winger served as Alternate Captain for the Toledo Walleye, the ECHL affiliates of the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Rockford Icehogs; affiliated on the NHL level with the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks respectively.
Rankin spent a little over two seasons with the Walleye, playing in 143 regular season games. In those 143 games, he scored 65 goals and 65 assists for a total of 130 points.
Before beginning his professional career, Rankin played for the University of Notre Dame. Over the course of his four seasons with the Fighting Irish he played in 143 games scoring 20 goals and 21 assists for a total of 41 points.
