Every team in the NHL is currently trying to fill out their rosters in the free agency period for the upcoming 2013-14 season. The Tampa Bay Lighting have already added several key offensive players to their team, but figuring out the goalie situation is a must if they want to return to the playoffs.
Ben Bishop and Anders Lindback are going to be the two goaltenders on the roster, and they will spend the first part of the season competing for the starting job. Both Bishop and Lindback have extremely similar career numbers, so it may be awhile before a number one goalie is determined.
Since the two players are extremely similar, it will most likely be difficult for one of them to become the clear cut starter. And while a goalie tandem may not be the most traditional way to reach the playoffs, the Tampa Bay Lightning have to like their chances heading into the upcoming season. Anders Lindback and Ben Bishop have been highly touted prospects during their emerging NHL careers, so they both should continue to learn, grow and develop at their position.
Jon Cooper will mostly likely be starting the hot goalie while adjusting for travel and back-to-back games. A key success factor will be the attitudes of Bishop and Lindback, and how well they feed off each other’s obstacles and opportunities.
If the Lightning can shore up their defense and goal-tending, then they have a reasonable shot at advancing to the playoffs with their potent offense. And don’t think that wouldn’t drive Lightning loyalists absolutely Cup crazy.
