Tampa Bay Lightning to Open Up Training Camp on Wednesday

The team announced last Friday that the Tampa Bay Lightning would open their 21st training camp on Wednesday, September 11th. The training camp will be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

At camp, you will see quite a few familiar faces. On top of the regular team superstars like Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos, you will get a chance to see some of the Lightning’s greatest prospects like Brett Connolly, Radko Gudas, Mark Barberio, Richard Panik, Ondrej Palat, and last season’s AHL Most Valuable Player, Tyler Johnson who are all hoping to make their way onto the Bolts main roster.

This will also be your first opportunity to see the Lightning’s newest center Valtteri Filppula as he takes the ice for the first time in a Lightning jersey.

The players will not be on the ice on Wednesday. They will begin their medical and physical testing at 8:00 a.m. on September 11th, and will be made available to the media once they have completed their obligations.

The Lightning will hit the ice for the first time on Thursday, September 12th and then again on Friday, September 13th.

Thursday’s practice is free and open to the public; however, Friday’s practice is closed.

Below is a look at the schedule of events for Training Camp.

If you would like to see the complete roster for the Camp and the breakdown of each team, you can do so right here.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am very excited to see the Bolts together as a team for the first time this season. This is usually the first indicator of how your season is going to play out. This is also the first time that you will get to see some of the newest Bolts like Jonathan Drouin, and Adam Erne play on the same ice as guys like Martin St. Louis and Ryan Malone, giving us a chance to see how they handle themselves in high pressure situations against NHLers.

Who do you think is going to be a standout at Training Camp? Do you expect the usual players to shine bright, or do you think we are going to be pleasantly surprised by one of the superstar prospects on deck? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.
