Tonight, our Tampa Bay Lightning make the last stop on their season opening road trip before heading back to the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Thursday night against in-state rivals, the Florida Panthers. Momentarily, the puck will drop at the First Niagara Center, and the Bolts will go head-to-head with the Buffalo Sabres.
In net for the Lightning tonight will be Ben Bishop. Bishop is coming off of a spectacular performance at the United Center against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks.
During regulation, Bishop was able to block 37 of the 39 shots brought against him. Then, in the shootout Bishop was able to ward off three of the biggest guns that the Hawks have to offer with Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, and Marian Hossa.
In goal for the Sabres is Jhonas Enroth. Unfortunately for Enroth, he is not having the same season as Bishop. When the Sabres took on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, Enroth stopped 31 of 34 shots allowing 3 goals. Right now, he has a Goals Allowed Average of 3.00 and a Save Percentage of .912. Despite Enroth’s best attempt, the Buffalo offense wasn’t able to overcome Marc-Andre Fleury and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
If you want to see a good matchup on the offense in tonight’s game, you can see Bolts By The Bay’s new feature The Face-Off Circle, where Josh Ciganek compares Lightning right wing Teddy Purcell and the Sabres’ left wing Thomas Vanek.
How do you think the Bolts are going to do in Buffalo tonight? Do they have what it takes to finish off the Sabres’ defense, or will Buffalo push back and give the Bolts a run for their money? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.
We’ll be here all night covering the matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Buffalo Sabres, so make sure you check back for the latest updates.
