He's Not the Only Player, You Know...

Ok. I can appreciate a good hockey player no matter the team. There are so many good players who do more than shoot the puck and score. But I am so over hearing about “Cindy” Crosby as if he were the only hockey player to ever play the game. (Ever heard of Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita? How ’bout that Gretzky guy?)

Crosby may be good, but he’s certainly not the end-all-be-all even with a bag of chips. I so despise listening to the tv commentators drool all over him. I’m sure if they could figure out how to have his baby they would go for it.

Why is it when our guy Stammer (who’s no slouch on the ice for sure) has a hat trick, it’s all “Yea, he did manage to get those 3 goals” or when Marty slams 3 out, we hear “Not bad for a guy his age.” But if Ms. Crosby manages to do the same thing, they treat it like a phenomenal event that rarely occurs in the natural world and gush over it for hours. Get over it already!

I’m sure if I were a Penguins fan I’d be more sympathetic, and I certainly don’t think anyone should suffer the insidious concussion that so frequents the game, but I will freely admit that I enjoyed watching Evgeni Malkin shine two seasons ago while Crosby was out for a good long while.

And it really, really pained me to hear one of our own overlords sing praises to that other guy after Saturday’s game against the Penguins.

Marty St. Louis has won the Lady Byng award more than once. Crosby? Not even once. They don’t give that award to whiny divas, do they, no matter how many hat tricks he has.

You gotta have class to be a world-class player.
