ICYMI: Ben Bishop Denies Aleksander Barkov in 6-1 Rout of the Florida Panthers

If you missed Monday night’s game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers, you missed one heck of a show. In what seemed to be an offensive firestorm, the Lightning absolutely routed the Panthers 6-1.

One of the better moments of the night was a spectacular save by Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop on Panthers center Aleksander Barkov late in the second period.

The puck is in the Lightning’s defensive zone. Panthers right wing Krys Barch brings the puck down the ice, handing it off to Barkov. Barkov tries to fire one off on Bishop’s stick side, but Bishop easily denies him.

I think this video vividly illustrates something that Lightning fans have known all season, and that is how rock solid that Bishop has been in net this season.

Even after he blocks the shot, Bishop is all over the net, guarding it from every angle. This has been a huge difference maker for the Bolts this season. In games where the offense was not as fiery as it has been as of late, Bishop has been the key that has kept the Bolts in the game.

So, whether you missed it the first time, or if you just want to relive the action all over again, here is a look at the  save on Aleksander Barkov made by Ben Bishop at 15:30 in the second period.

Ranked at the number one European skater in this year’s NHL Draft, Aleksander Barkov was selected 2nd overall by the Florida Panthers. So far this season the Tampere, Finland native has 6 goals and 10 assists for a total of 16 points.

What do you think of Bishop’s performance so far this season? Do you think that we are looking at our franchise goaltender of the future? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.
