Ever since this season started, hockey fans around the world have been looking forward to this year’s 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Speculation has been running rampant as to who would be making the trip to Sochi for Team USA. Thankfully, the time for speculation is almost at its end. Today, at the conclusion of the 2014 Bridgestone Winter Classic, USA Hockey will be announcing the 2014 Olympic Rosters for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.

One of the biggest debates this season has been the situation in net in Sochi.

When the invitations went out for the Olympic Orientation Camp, one name was left off of it; Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop.

Since then, the Lightning netminder has secured himself a position in the Top Tier of the NHL this season. Bishop is currently 3rd in the NHL for Wins and Shutouts, and 5th in the league in Save Percentage.

In the 29 games he has played with the Tampa Bay Lightning this season, he is 20-5-3 with a GAA of 1.89 and a Save Percentage of .935.

Some of the other names being tossed around quite a bit to protect Team USA’s net is Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick, Buffalo Sabres netminder Ryan Miller, and the man who is currently guarding the net for the Detroit Red Wings in the 2014 Bridgestone Winter Classic, Jimmy Howard.

Team USA is certainly in a good position this year. They have so many players that are vying for their spot in history this year. Soon, we will find out whose dream is going to be fulfilled, and who will have to wait another four years to make their mark on history.

Who do you think are locks for this year’s Team USA Men’s Hockey Team? Who do you think are going to be the surprises this year? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think.
