There are plenty of highlights from last night’s encounter between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Calgary Flames, but there was only one moment like this.
Just under the halfway point in the second period, the Lightning was leading the Flames 1-0.
The Lightning was fighting to bring the puck back into the offensive zone. Lighting left wing Ondrej Palat was the one who was able to make that happen. As one could reasonably expect, the goaltender believed that it would be him who would take it to the net. Why wouldn’t he? He had the perfect opportunity.
So, as any goaltender would do, former Lightning goaltender Karri Ramo set up to guard the net from Palat; only, it wasn’t Palat who was ready to take the shot. Staring down a very open net was Nikita Kucherov. Palat notices Kucherov’s positioning, and fires off a pass.
Kucherov was easily able to quickly gain control of the puck and fire off a wrist shot that would easily find its way to the back of the net.
This was Nikita Kucherov’s 5th goal of the season.
While he may not have the highest stats on the team, he has certainly been instrumental in getting things done. He plays the puck aggressively, he’s not afraid to get in front of someone and play a little offensive defense, and he has the capability to get things done when the team needs it.
This is the sign of someone who wants to be here for the long haul, and is trying to make sure that we never forget his name.
Here is a look at the goal from Nikita Kucherov that gave the Lightning their second and final point of the night.
