Sochi 2014: Olympic Men’s Hockey Medal Round Bracket – Gold and Bronze Medal Games

The stage is finally set for the final two games in the Men’s Hockey Competition at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Still trying to keep track of all the action? No problem! We here at Bolts By The Bay have you covered.

Here is the official FanSided Hockey Bracket for the Medal Round, which has been updated to reflect the outcome of today’s Quarterfinal Round matchups.

Early this morning, Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson and Team Sweden were able to overcome the generally solid goaltending of Dallas Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen as they defeated Team Finland 2-1. As a result, Team Sweden will move on to the Gold Medal game, and Team Finland will play for the Bronze.

Then we have the epic battle between Team Canada and Team USA. These two teams would go back and forth for all 60 minutes of play, but at the end of the day, it would be the goal by Dallas Stars center Jamie Benn who would send Team Canada to the Gold Medal game as they defeated Team USA 1-0.

So, as I said before, the stage is set for the final two games of the Men’s Hockey Competition at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Team Finland and Team USA will face off tomorrow morning in the Bronze Medal game, and Team Sweden and Team Canada will face off on Sunday in the Gold Medal game.

I have said before, each and every team that has taken the ice in this year’s competition has played their hearts out with the hopes of becoming, whether for the first time or not, an Olympic Gold Medalist. Some have succeeded, and some have fallen along the way, but there is something to be said about the Olympic spirit that brings us all together as one big group; a group of fans of the greatest sport in the world, hockey.

Which team are you pulling for in the final two games? Which player has pulled away from the pack and really shown themselves to be the MVP of the tournament thus far? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.
