Steven Stamkos Named New Captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning

When one era ends another must begin. Now that former captain Martin St. Louis has made his departure for the New York Rangers, the Bolts are in need of a new captain. Before the game tonight, the Lightning organization named center Steven Stamkos as the new captain of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Here is a look at Stamkos and the rest of the Tampa Bay Lightning making their way down to the tunnel for the matchup tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.

This makes Stamkos the 10th captain in franchise history.

Tonight marks the beginning of a new era in Tampa Bay Lightning history. It is time for the Bolts to lay it all out on the line and play every game like it is a playoff game; play like there really is no tomorrow.

In the 17 games Stamkos played this season before fracturing his tibia on November 11th at the TD Garden against the Boston Bruins, the center had scored 14 goals and 9 assists for a total of 23 points to accompany his plus-11 rating.

Now that he is back, one would suspect that he is ready to get down to business and help lead the Bolts towards the post season, and maybe even another run at the Lord Stanley’s Cup.

Are you excited to see Stamkos with the “C” on his jersey? What kind of impact do you think he will have on the remainder of the season? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
