One of the National Hockey League’s biggest nights is almost here! Tonight, all of the greatest players, coaches, and staff in the National Hockey League will descend upon the city of Las Vegas for the 2014 NHL Awards.
Tampa Bay Lightning fans have plenty of reasons to be anxious going into tonight’s awards show. The Lightning have four people; three players and one magnificent Head Coach that are up for an award on tonight’s show.
Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper has been nominated for the Jack Adams Award, which is awarded to the coach who has “contributed the most to his team’s success.”
Also up for an award tonight are two of the Lightning’s young guns. Lightning rookies Tyler Johnson and Ondrej Palat have been nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the “player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition.”
Last, but most certainly not least, Tampa Bay Lightning netminder Ben Bishop has been nominated for the Vezina Trophy. The Vezina Trophy is awarded to “the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at his position.”
When I think of the words “best” and “goaltender” in the same sentence, the only name that comes to mind is the 6’7” Denver, Colorado native. However, that may be my bias towards the Tampa Bay Lightning coming out; then again, maybe not.
I guess we’ll find out later tonight.
Here is all the information you’ll need to make sure you don’t miss a minute of the action as the 2014 NHL Awards are handed out tonight.
