Brad Marchand On Cedric Paquette: ‘Hopefully He’ll Be Sent Down By Then’

If you missed the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 4-3 loss to the Boston Bruins last night at the TD Garden in Boston, then you probably saved yourself a giant headache (and probably your sanity.)

While the Lightning weren’t able to put together a win last night, the team did play significantly better than the previous night when they were smacked 7-3 by Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers.

Unfortunately, it isn’t the Lightning’s game play that everyone is talking about this afternoon. Of course, if you are one of the people who watched last night (and probably threw many items in the general direction of your television,) then you know just what we are talking about.

Earlier this afternoon, we showed you a video from last night’s game that highlighted the altercation between Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Cedric Paquette. Despite how you may or may not feel about Chara and the Bruins, that was one low down, dirty move on behalf of the Bruins.

Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse, and you couldn’t possibly be any angrier at the number eight ranked team in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins come along and wave the goon card around once again.

According to Boston Bruins Beat Writer Amalie Benjamin, Bruins left wing Brad Marchand had quite a few things to say about not only his captain, but the young Lightning rookie as well.

Ok…hold on a second. You’re captain boards one of our players, and when Paquette calls him out on it, Chara sees fit to slam him in the throat with the butt end of his stick. Then, to top it all off, once our player is down on the ground and in obvious pain, your teammate decides to skate on over to run his mouth some more.

On top of all that, the fans in the arena began to chant “bull****” as Chara made his way to the penalty box. I don’t care which team you root for, that was a good call by the refs. Personally, I would have tacked on a Misconduct Penalty, but that’s just me.

Oh, but wait…there’s more.

Ok, seriously…is there something wrong with you, Marchand? Apparently, he forgets that the Lightning play them three more times this season, and by the time the next occasion comes around, we will more than likely have back in our arsenal the scoring power of Tyler Johnson and the defensive grit of Victor Hedman.

Maybe this is just me, but beating up on a person of whom you have approximately a foot or more height differential over is not exactly something to write home about. Furthermore, when you have to use a stick to get your point across you really ought to reconsider your actions.

More importantly…is that a threat? I don’t know about you, but that sure sounded like one to me. Marchand says that Paquette should be sent down “for his sake.” We’re pretty sure that we will be planted right in front of our television set on March 12th when the Lightning charge into the TD Garden once again to take on the Bruins. There is no denying that this one is going to get ugly.

What do you think is going to happen when the Tampa Bay Lightning make their way into the TD Garden to face down the Boston Bruins once again; especially after remarks like the ones from Brad Marchand? If you were Jon Cooper, what would you tell your guys before they head out on the ice again? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
