The Tampa Bay Lightning play host to the Winnipeg Jets tonight at the Amalie Arena in a contest that has playoff implications for both teams.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have faced down a tough road this past week, and given the circumstances in which they had to complete said mission we would say that they performed rather spectacularly.

On Tuesday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning played what could easily be considered as one of their best (and complete) games that they have played all season long in their 1-0 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens.

Then on Thursday night, they may not have come up with the win, but they took the “Big, Bad” Boston Bruins the distance by forcing them to defeat the Lightning in a shootout.

Now, the Tampa Bay Lightning are faced with yet another challenge; one that has playoff implications for both sides of the ice.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will open up their doors tonight to play host to captain Andrew Ladd and the Western Conference Winnipeg Jets. Both teams have something on the line tonight; unfortunately for the Jets, this is a bit more “do or die” for them.

You see…the Tampa Bay Lightning is all but guaranteed a spot in the 2014-15 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The only thing that we have to determine now is where in the standings that we’ll be sitting when the post season starts. On the other side of the ice, the Jets currently sit one point behind the Los Angeles Kings which means that they are on the cusp of a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, but not quite there yet.

There are only 15 games left in the season for the Jets to accomplish their goal, and with every other team in the league equally as hungry for a spot in the playoffs, they are going to have to be on top of their game every single night if they want to accomplish this lofty goal.

The Lightning will have one thing to their advantage tonight as it is anticipated that Lightning defenseman Matt Carle will be making his return to the Lightning lineup tonight after missing a lengthy amount of time recovering from abdominal surgery. This will certainly help lighten the load on the Lightning defense.

There is no denying that this is going to be an exciting game tonight. Both teams have a lot on the line, and this will make each side fight that much harder to bring home the two points.
