Tampa Bay Lightning Fans React To Cory Conacher Return

Tampa Bay Lightning fans seem rather excited to see a familiar face like Lightning forward Cory Conacher make his return to the Bolts Nation.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been fairly quiet since the start of the Free Agency Period. First, the Lightning were able to secure a huge piece of the team’s core by re-signing captain Steven Stamkos to an eight-year contract extension. After that, the Bolts were able to secure defenseman Victor Hedman for another eight years.

Once those two blockbuster moves were made, the Tampa Bay Lightning have calmed things down by making small moves that will take some time to cultivate, but will help the Lightning in the long run. Then…it happened.

On Wednesday evening, Tampa Bay Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman was able to bring a rather familiar face back home to the Bolts Nation. Yzerman announced the team had come to terms with former Tampa Bay Lightning forward Cory Conacher to a one-year deal worth $575,000.

As most of you know, Cory Conacher, who at the time was on track to be a standout among his rookie class, was part of a trade that was shunned by many. On April 3, 2013, the Tampa Bay Lightning would trade the young sniper to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for mostly-untested goaltender Ben Bishop.

Needless to say, many opposed to the trade, including ourselves, have cooled our temper in regards to the trade; especially considering the tremendous asset Ben Bishop has been to our team. At the same time, there was always a part of us that wanted Conacher back on the team. Thankfully, with Yzerman’s latest acquisition, Lightning fans can have their cake and eat it too.

It didn’t take long after the news of Conacher’s signing made its way around the internet for Lightning fans to take to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to express their thoughts on the matter. Let’s take a moment to take a closer look at what some Tampa Bay Lightning fans had to say about the return of Cory Conacher. Spoiler Alert…they’re pretty happy.

There are bound to be a few more changes in the Lightning lineup before the 2016-17 season kicks off. How those changes will affect the Lightning and their chance to be successful next season are yet to be seen, but the one thing we know for sure is we can’t wait to see how things play out.
