Our Sincerest Condolences To The Esposito And Selivanov Families

Daughter of Lightning founder and NHL Hall Of Famer Phil Esposito, Carrie Esposito Selivanov, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 from an unknown illness. She passed away in Germany where she was residing with her family. She leaves behind her husband, former NHLer and  Tampa Bay Lightning player Alex Selivanov, and  three children, Dylan (18), Nikko (13) and Rocco (10). NHLPA Does Not Consent to Realignment Plan

Recently announced, the National Hockey League Player’s Association (NHLPA) has refused to agree to the proposed realignment plan approved by the NHL Board of Governors.  What does this mean?  Well for this Tampa Bay Lightning fan, I am happy, as I had previously discussed in a past article, I was not a big fan of the proposed realignment.  To quickly recap why, it made no sense to me that the Lightning and the Panthers were placed in a division/conference with five North-Eastern teams.  But other than my personal feelings on this, what is this indicative of?  A strong union not [...]

Bolts Acquire Brendan Mikkelson From Flames

After the beating they took Thursday night at the hands of the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins, losing 9-0, it was expected that the Calgary Flames would have to start moving some players around. Well, it may be happening, as the Flames have already secured a deal Friday, although not mind-blowing, with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts have released forward Blair Jones in exchange for Flames defenseman Brendan Mikkelson. Lightning Recall Oberg And Wyman

As The Tampa Bay Lightning travel tomorrow to San Jose for a meeting with The Sharks, JT Wyman and Evan Oberg are getting ready to make the trip as well. Today Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced the recall of the two prospects from The Lightning’s AHL team, The Norfolk Admirals.

Referee Escapes The Shanaban

In a match up between The Philadelphia Flyers and The Washington Capitals an incident occurred with approximately six minutes and forty-eight seconds left in the third period. Referee Stephen Walkom checks  Kimmo Timonen.   As you can clearly see the Referee Stephen Walkom jumps in the air and braces for impact, he did not use only the point of his elbow, but his whole body. These considerations were taken into effect : Referee Stephen Walkom has no prior violations. The incident appears to be accidental, and he braces his entire body for impact.
