Lightning Strikes Again In OT
They asked you to “Be The Thunder”, and you’ve expected the very best of them. So, here you go… After a 5-4 OT win over the 2010 Stanley Cup champ Blackhawks, the Bolts barely forced OT with the 2010 runner-up Flyers. Marc-Andre Bergeron brought things even in the 3rd period, and Brett Connolly punched the winning goal past Bryzgalov midway through the extra frame. The frustrations on the power play may be overlooked by fans, for now with the win still fresh, but expect our Bolts to focus on improving this area of their game. After all, a single game [...]
Brendan Shanahan Discusses New Rules – NHL VideoCenter
Samuel L. Jackson’s line in Pulp Fiction “With great vengeance and furious anger!!” is one of the best movie quotes of all time. And, though Brendan Shanahan’s quote may not be as epic, it is definitely more important. Players need to realize that their actions on the ice carry over the glass and impact each fan in attendance as well as their opponents on the bench. They also need to realize that dirty plays and hits have greater far-reaching implications in most cases than just the final minutes of a period or playoff series. So, what Mr. Shanahan has to [...]
Malone Mania II – UPDATE
A quick update: I have received word via the Tampa Bay Lightning’s official twitter feed that a PR rep for the team released the news not long ago that although Ryan Malone did have surgery on his shoulder, the 4-6 months of healing time was an inaccurate prediction. It is expected by the team that Malone will be healed and ready to skate come the start of training camp, and that’s great news to all Bolts fans. Follow on Twitter: @TampaBayWriting
More Malone Mania
Not much has been reported yet, but according to NHL analyst Nick Kypreos, who was one to break the news via Twitter, forward Ryan Malone will not be ready to start the 2011-12 season with the rest of the team. Kypreos’ Twitter feed stated: “As Lightning celebrate Stamkos signing, they also deal with the fact Ryan Malone will not be ready to start the 2011-12 season.” This ‘tweet’ was followed shortly with more detail. Kypreos said: “Word is Lightning Malone has surgery on his ailing shoulder recently and could be lost up to 4-6 months. A mid-December return in projected.” [...]

Lightning Announce New Model, Uniforms, STH Perks
The Tampa Bay Lightning held a press conference today to introduce a new business model they will use going forward. There will be several announcements over the next three days that will layout the entire plan that Chairman Jeff Vinik and C.E.O Tod Leiweke have in store for the organization (in consultation with Lightning and St. Pete Times Forum COO Steve Griggs). The most key part of a new brand is obviously its logo, and that is one aspect the team revealed today. Vinny Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, and Steven Stamkos introduced the new home and away uniforms, which have [...]
Lightning Acquire Roloson From Islanders
Take Evgeni Nabokov off of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s shopping list. As reported by TSN.ca, Bolts’ GM Steve Yzerman tonight has acquired 41-year-old goalkeeper Dwayne Roloson from the New York Islanders for 22-year-old defenseman Ty Wishart.
RIP Bob Probert
One of the toughest players to ever put on a sweater died today in Windsor, Ontario. Bob Probert was one of the players that made me truly love hockey as a little kid. I could appreciate its toughness when watching a guy like Probert. I once saw Enrico Ciccone in a restaurant the day after fighting Probert, and recognized him immediately not because I knew Enrico’s face, but because I saw the highlight on Sportcenter of the fight, and just realized Enrico’s face had to be in bad shape. It was! There are not enough Youtube videos to do Probert [...]
