Understanding Toronto’s Malone Fetish II

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

In a piece written during the off-season, I laid out some thoughts to put the Leafs’ fascination with Tampa Bay forward Ryan Malone into perspective. The interest in Malone has been there over the last few season’s and you can read the original article, back from June 22, HERE. Now, with the Leafs sitting just out of the playoffs in ninth place, they are looking to make some roster moves to increase their chances of claiming a spot in the post-season. It’s no secret that the Leafs have been looking for a ‘power-forward’ and all eyes could once again be [...]

The Stamkos Saga Pt. 2

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, NHL, Opinion, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, we’ve had plenty of time to chew on just about every Stamkos based rumor available in English on the Internet. Unfortunately, there’s nothing new to report other than what we already know: Yzerman isn’t concerned, Stamkos isn’t talking, and half of Bolts Nation still hasn’t taken a breath since RFA’s started to resign with their respective teams. Stamkos’ agents, Mark Guy and Don Meehan, will continue their efforts in bringing the two sides together, but we must all remember that #91 isn’t in any position to hurry up and sign. Drafted #1 overall in the 2008 entry draft, Stamkos has [...]

Yzerman Can Afford to be Patient with Goaltending

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, News, NHL, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

What a difference two weeks can make. On December 11th, Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Dan Ellis was coming off of a shaky 5-4 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks.  He had let in a questionable shot by defenseman Keith Ballard to knot the game late in regulation and despite picking up the win, once again lost his starting job to Mike Smith.

Breaking Down The Bolts Current Roster

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, News, Opinion, Rumors, Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Me and my brother have been bantering back and forth about what we think the lines are going to look like (as of right now) for the 2010/2011 season, so with hockey season fast approaching and me being awfully bored today, I figured I’d take a guess as to what we may be looking at for this upcoming season. Goaltenders Mike Smith, Dan Ellis This is the only position where I think everything is set in stone.  Stevie brought in Dan Ellis, and retained Mike Smith.  Barring Steve Yzerman ripping off some other GM besides Paul Holmgren this month, these [...]

Free Agency Assessment – Phase 2

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, Opinion, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

I just got back in town from a month long business trip, so I apologize for the lack of posts lately.  My brother and I will be ramping up the content significantly though as we start to get closer to the NHL season…Now enough of my whining about work. We put up a post a few weeks ago about some of the things that new GM Steve Yzerman had done at the onset of Free Agency (Meszaros, Kubina, Dan Ellis, Martin St Louis).  We were a fan of everyone of those moves.  Phase 2 of Free Agency (after week 1 [...]

Bolts Finally Get A New GM…Welcome Stevie Y

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Lightning, NHL, Opinion, Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

After waffling back and forth on  his interest in the Tampa Bay Lightning GM position, it appears as though Steve Yzerman will be named the Tampa Bay Lightnings’ General Manager today at a press conference scheduled for 3pm. “This did not take us by surprise because for years Stevie has said one day he would like to be a general manager in the NHL,” Red Wings Senior Vice President Jim Devellano told the Detroit News. “It was something he wanted to do, but it had to be the right opportunity for him and his family. “It was a tough decision [...]

Stevie Y Time

AUTHOR: | IN: Lightning, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch reportedly recently attempted some re-shuffling of his front office in order to keep highly sought after Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman with the Detroit Red Wings.  He supposedly approached GM Ken Holland about becoming team president in order for Steve Yzerman to apparently assume the role of GM. “I’m the general manager, I don’t have any interest in becoming president,” Holland said. “I’m a general manager, that’s what I was hired to do.” Ouch.  Not exactly what you want to hear if your a Motor City fan hoping to keep one of your all time [...]

Punched In The Gut

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, News, NHL, Opinion, Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

I was talking with a good friend before yesterdays goal medal tilt with the Canadiens, trying to summarize my level of excitement for the game.  My friend, said he hadn’t been this excited for a hockey game since the Bolts were in the Stanley Cup Finals.  I personally felt that even then, I didn’t have as much anxiety, and giddiness leading up to the game.  I can only remember one time in my life having a real nervous stomach before a sporting event that I didn’t personally play in, and that was the Bucs Super Bowl vs the Raiders.  I [...]
