In my head, there were a few goals to start this FA period for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
1. Lock up Steven Stamkos to a long term deal
2. Resign Martin St Louis to a 3-4 year deal
3. Move one money contract from the roster, preferably Andrej Meszaros
Stevie Y accomplished both 2 and 3 on the first day of FA. For starters, he locked up Marty to a 4 year 22.5 million dollar deal.
“Today is a great day for the Lightning organization,” Yzerman said. “Marty means so much to this franchise, both on and off the ice. His hard work [...]

Niitty Gritty Is On Fire
With a 3-1 home victory last night vs the Vancouver Canucks, the Bolts extended their win streak to 4 games, have picked up points in 8 of their last 9 games, and are 7-1-1 in their past 9. Antero Niitymaki has been the goaltender for 8 of those games, and he has been nothing short of spectacular, culminating in last nights 39 save effort vs the Canucks.
In his past 8 games, during the Lightning streak, he has seen 254 shots and stopped 245 of them, for a .964 save percentage and a 1.125 GAA. I said it a few posts [...]
Bolts Are Red Hot
After beating the Islanders last night at the St Pete Times Forum, the Lighting are 5-1-1 since their demolishing defeat at the hands of the New York Rangers.
The Bolts crushed the Isle last night 5-2 in a game that was better played than the score might appear. Antero Niitymaki continued his string of dominance, leading the Lightning to a W.
In the first period, Steven Stamkos started the scoring with a shot that is no becoming his patented goal, the PPG from the crease to the right of the opposing netminder. If he gets a pass that isn’t bouncing and lands [...]
Sorry for not posting on the last two games until just now, but I was out of town for the weekend.
I did get a chance to watch both games, an OT win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, and a shootout victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night.
The game vs the Leafs was surprisingly exciting. The tone of the game got set in the first period with 40 minutes of penalties, including 2 fights, and one 10 minute misconduct. If you want to see as good of a hockey knockout punch there is, watch this haymaker by [...]
